In an effort to address the ministry to children and young families in Arkona, we're trying to hold our Church School sessions on Mondays after school. With Sunday mornings too busy and full, is another time of week better suited? This is what we're trying to discover.
Our first session was a modest success, with 3 kids and my daughter Rei attending. After an after-school snack of hot chocolate, Clementines and homemade chocolate chip cookies, we lit a candle of hope, shared in prayer and imagined ourselves in Isaiah's time. In preparation for the coming season, we decorated the Christmas tree for the sanctuary.
Rei was the star of the show, entertaining the 6- and 8-year olds, with her innocent and enthusiastic remarks. Somewhere in the midst of giggling and hilarity, I hope the point of hope in Advent and Isaiah's message to the disappointed people of God returned from Babylonian exile got through.
It was a promising beginning and a vital sign of, you guessed it, hope.
