There is a new Early Literacy Specialist with Lambton-Kent-Middlesex Early Years Centre and I am married to her. It is with great excitement that Shelley begins her new job in February, although this cuts her maternity leave short.
The Government of Canada allows for 15 weeks of maternity leave followed by 35 weeks of parental leave that can be shared by both parents, for a total of 50 weeks. Our plan is for me to take the remainder of our leave time and be at home with the kids.
After the Annual meetings, (Jan. 29 and Feb. 5), I hope to be on leave until May 22, 2006 - or thereabouts, if I've counted off the weeks properly.
I'm working with the Ministry and Personnel committee on this, and there are some questions that I'm still investigating, so we'll try to keep everyone updated. I most likely would be available on call for pastoral emergencies and funerals, otherwise I'll be domestically occupied.
EDIT: Apparently I miscounted the weeks, and neglected to account for the two weeks of no benefits before leave begins, so June 12, 2006 is the day I return, according to Shelley.
